Heawave Warning For 11 Odisha Districts Today, Norwester May Bring Relief From May 1
Bhubaneswar: Eleven districts in Odisha are likely to experience heatwave conditions in the next 24 hours, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Friday.
Heatwave warning has been issued for Sambalpur, Sonepur, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Deogarh, Bargarh, Boudh, Balangir, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj and Angul. While the temperature is unlikely to change significantly over the next 2 days, it is expected to remain 2-3 deg above normal in interior districts of the state.
Notably, the maximum temperature had crossed 43 degree Celsius at 13 places the previous day with Boudh being the hottest at 45 degree Celsius.
The IMD has also predicted a dip in mercury level in a few parts of the state due to thunderstorm activity from May 1. “The Norwester will bring temperatures down by 2 degrees Celsius around May 1-2,” the MeT office said.
Thunderstorms with lightning are very likely to occur at one or two places in Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara Cuttack, Nayagarh, Kandhamal, Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada and Koraput districts with light to moderate rain at one or two places in coastal Odisha, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Angul, Dhenkanal, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Malkangiri, Koraput and Sundargarh districts on May 1.
Similar weather condition is likely in Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Jajpur, Bhadrak and Balasore districts. Light to moderate rain/thunderstorm is likely to occur at one or two places in Malkangiri, Koraput, Nawarangpur, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Nayagarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Jajpur, Bhadrak and Balasore districts during this period.
