New Delhi: After a break of three months, Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju on Wednesday announced that the Monsoon session of the Parliament would commence from July 21. It will continue till August 12. Both Houses of the Parliament are scheduled to convene on July 21 at 11 am.
The Cabinet Committee on Parliamentary Affairs, chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, has recommended the dates, Rijiju told reporters.
The Budget session of the Parliament kicked off on January 31 earlier this year. Both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha were adjourned sine die on April 4.
Here’s what to expect out of this session:
- This will be the first Parliament session since the Pahalgam attack in Kashmir, where 26 tourists were killed by terrorists
- An impeachment motion against former Delhi High Court judge Justice Yashwant Varma is also expected to be moved in the Parliament during the Monsoon session. The government reached out to Opposition parties on Tuesday in an attempt to build political consensus over the issue.
- The new Income Tax Bill, aimed at simplifying direct tax laws, will be discussed in Parliament’s monsoon session. It seeks to simplify the over-six-decades-old principal legislation on direct laws
