Srinagar: Following the Pahalgam attack, intelligence sources have reportedly warned of possible terror threats targeting jails in Jammu and Kashmir. According to reports, security measures have been heightened in the Kashmir jails. High-security facilities such as Srinagar’s Central Jail and Kot Balwal Jail in Jammu are reportedly at risk. These prisons have several high-profile militants and sleeper cell members.
These jails also house individuals who are known to support terrorist activities by providing logistical help, shelter, and aiding in the movement of terrorists, even if they are not directly involved in attacks, the Times Now reported.
The current alert comes amid ongoing investigations into the Pahalgam attack, which killed 26. Director General of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), which took over the security of Jammu and Kashmir jails from the CRPF in October 2023, met with senior security officials in Srinagar to evaluate the situation.
Intelligence sources suggest that even more terrorists could be hiding in the forests of south Kashmir. There are suspicions that during the Pahalgam attack, some terrorists may have been positioned to provide cover-fire in case security forces attempted a rapid response, the Times Now reported.
