Bhubaneswar: Janpath in Odisha capital witnessed high drama on Thursday afternoon as a heavily intoxicated autorickshaw driver created ruckus, bringing traffic to a halt on a section of the busy stretch for nearly an hour.
According to sources, the auto driver overturned his vehicle in the middle of the road in front of Kendriya Vidyalaya-1 at Unit-9 frequently used by commuters and school traffic. When passersby, assuming that the auto had broken down, urged him to move it aside to ease congestion, he began hurling vulgar abuse and profanities at the bystanders.
The commotion brought traffic to a complete halt between Ram Mandir Square and Rupali Chhak, resulting in long queues and widespread inconvenience. A bus driver claimed that he was delayed by around 30 minutes while trying to pick up students from a nearby school.
On being informed, two police control room (PCR) vans rushed to the spot. The driver alleged resisted attempts to restrain him and even attacked the officers, before being overpowered and shifted to Kharavel Nagar police station.
Police said that autorickshaw has been seized and efforts are underway to establish the driver’s identity.
