Bhubaneswar: An Important meeting was held in New Delhi on Wednesday to address issues related to the expansion of the Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) in Odisha.
The meeting was attended by Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram, both from Odisha. They discussed issues related to RSP’s expansion with Union Steel Minister H D Kumaraswamy.
During the meeting, Dharmendra Pradhan gave a proposal for the formation of a high-level committee to fast-track the resolution of challenges affecting the plant’s expansion. The proposal was accepted by Steel Minister Kumaraswamy.
Stressing that the expansion of RSP is crucial for Odisha’s industrial growth, Dharmendra said it would play a significant role in giving momentum to socio-economic development and employment generation in the state.
He said the expansion move is in line with Purvodaya vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi aimed at driving economic progress in Eastern India and strengthening India’s self-reliance in core industries.
The expansion will enhance steel production, reduce dependence on imports, support allied industries, and create substantial job opportunities in Odisha, the Union Minister added.
