Hockey WC: 16 Matches Later, Only One In QF & 3 Safe From Elimination

After completion of Round 2 and 16 matches, 16 teams have played two matches each in their respective pools. With only one match each left at group stage, only Australia has sealed the quarterfinal ppot while Argentina, Germany and India are safe from elimination even if they lose next match.
Pool A

Results: 3

Draws: 1

    Goals Scored: 15

Argentina won first two matches against Spain and New Zealand. They cannot be eliminated but pushed to Crossover if they lose last match.
Having won against France, New Zealand can seal the top spot if they register big win against Spain and France defeats Argentina.
Spain and France have played a draw against each other to earn one point each and lost one match each. They must win their last matches to escape elimination and qualify for crossover.
Who stands where before third match!

    1. 1. Argentina seals QF spot if they draw or if New Zealand doesn’t win.
    1. 2. New Zealand must not lose to escape elimination. A draw gets them to crossover. A big win and loss of Argentina gets them to QF direct.
    1. 3. Spain must win to reach crossover. Even in draw they will reach crossover if France also draws.
    4. France needs a win to ensure crossover. A draw gets them to crossover if Spain loses.

Pool B

    1. Results: 2
    1. Draws: 2
    Goals Scored: 12

Three time champion Australia, seeking hattrick of titles is the only team to have qualified for the Quarterfinal winning matches against Ireland and England. China stands second with two shocking draws and can be stopped from entering next round only when remaining three teams join hands.

Who stands where before third match!

    1. 1. Australia is already in Quarterfinals.
    1. 2. China is almost in crossover if they can avoid a defeat of by more than 2 goals vs Australia. If they win vs Australia, Ireland or England will be eliminated.
    1. 3. Ireland must win. Otherwise play a draw and pray for defeat of China.
    4. England must win. Otherwise play a draw and pray for defeat of China by at least 3 goals.

Pool C

    1. Results: 2
    1. Draws: 2
    Goals Scored: 14

India sits on top with a win and draw but are tied on 4 points with Belgium, who achieved similar results in two matches. Canada and South Africa need a win for entry to crossover.

Who stands where before third match!

    1. 1. India needs a win to enter Quarterfinal. They cannot be eliminated now.
    1. 2. Belgium needs a big win to enter Quarterfinal if India also wins. A draw can get them into crossover. A loss of more than 3 goals can get them eliminated if Canada also wins.
    1. 3. Canada needs to win by a margin of 3 goals to enter crossover. Winning by 4 goals and loss of Belgium can get them directly to Quarterfinals.
    4. South Africa has the most difficult task to avoid elimination. Easiest way is a draw and then loss of Canada. Direct option is to win by at least 4 goals against Belgium.

Pool D

    1. Results: 3
    1. Draw: 1
    Goals Scored: 15

Germany is the only team safe in this group after registering two wins. Even a draw can get them directly to quarterfinal. Netherlands need to win and Germany to lose to enter quarterfinal directly.
Who stands where before third match!

    1. 1. Germany can finish on top even with loss if Netherlands doesn’t win. A win or draw can directly get them to Quarterfinals.
    1. 2. Netherlands needs just a draw to enter crossover. If they win and Germans lose, they will finish on top.
    1. 3. Pakistan needs a win to enter crossover. Even with loss they cannot be eliminated if Malaysia loses. To avoid elimination if they draw, then Malaysia must not win.
    4. Malaysia needs a win to enter crossover. To avoid elimination if they draw, then Pakistan must lose.
