Cuttack: The curtain will go up on FIH Men’s Hockey World Cup 2023 at the opening ceremony titled “Celebrating the Spirit of Hockey” at Barabati Stadium in Odisha’s Cuttack district on Wednesday.
While Cuttack is buzzing with excitement over the much-anticipated event, sports enthusiasts across the globe can also witness the spectacular opening ceremony, which will be broadcast from 3 pm onwards, on Sports Odisha YouTube Channel, DD Sports and watch.hockey.com.
A precursor event to the Hockey World Cup, which Odisha is hosting for the second consecutive time from January 13-29, it will showcase Odisha’s culture and heritage through performances and technology. Bollywood actors Ranveer Singh, Disha Patani and music director Pritam, who has composed the Hockey World Cup theme song ‘Hockey Hai Dil Mera’, K-Pop band BLACKSWAN featuring Sriya Lenka of Odisha will perform live at the inaugural ceremony.

Ollywood’s power couple Sabyasachi Mishra and Archana Sahu will also feature in the celebration along with the famous Prince Dance Group and many other performers.
Around 30,000 people, including players and officials from 16 countries, are expected to attend the opening ceremony.

Altogether 50 platoons of police and 200 police officers have been deployed for the inaugural event. Special routes have been created for the smooth flow of traffic.
Hockey fan parks with huge LED screens along with sound systems have been set up at Saheed Bhawan, Rajabagicha ground, Gopabandhu park, Panchamukhi Hanuman temple ground, Chauliaganj ground near OMP Chowk, Bell View Chowk and Nimpur Sports ground in Cuttack for live streaming of the matches. The screens will be operational from 3 pm to 10 pm., sources said.
