New Delhi: India’s Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has issued an important notification in the wake of the brutal sexual assault and murder of a junior doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College & Hospital, which has triggered nationwide protests and agitations.
MHA has ordered all states/UTs to send law and order situation reports to the Centre every 2 hours via email/fax/Whatsapp.
“Step taken to monitor security and not let things go out of hand,” added the message sent by MHA Control Room Officer Mohan Chandra Pandit.
IMA Writes To PM Modi
Hours before the MHA directive, the Indian Medical Association (IMA) wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking his intervention in the rape-murder case of the 31-yearold junior doctor at the state-run hospital in Kolkata.
The letter, written by IMA national president Dr RV Asokan and honorary secretary general Dr Anilkumar J Nayak, mentioned some solutions and demands to the Prime Minister and stated that his taking note of the situation will “give confidence to not only women doctors but also to every woman in workplace”.
IMA also wrote about the vandalism at the hospital on August 14 night, and raised concerns over the safety of doctors inside hospitals and campuses.
