New Delhi: Hours after a Supreme Court verdict gave Delhi’s ruling dispensation Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) control over all services in the national capital, including the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), the government removed Services secretary Ashish More from his post on Thursday.
AAP leaders and party workers broke into celebrations after the historic Supreme Court.
Reacting to the unanimous verdict by the apex court, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal said at a press conference at the Delhi Secretariat that a major administrative reshuffle was in the offing.
Kejriwal, who was garlanded and heartily welcomed by party leaders at the Secretariat, warned action against officials who “obstructed” public works and said transfers will be effected on the basis of the work done by officers.
“Some officers, who in the last one and a half years obstructed the work of the people of Delhi, stopped the supply of medicines to mohalla clinics and hospitals, stopped water supply at some places… will have to pay for their deeds,” Kejriwal said.
“There will be an overhaul of the administrative system. The entire system is rotten. We will create a system that is accountable and responsible towards the public,” the Delhi CM said, stressing that officers who are “efficient, honest, responsive and compassionate” will be given the opportunity to serve Delhi people.
