Did you know that you don’t have to carry physical ID cards such as driving licence, PAN, Aadhaar, and others even to the airport? Digital certificates of these ID cards are valid legal documents, Road Transport & Highways Ministry has clarified. While you can use mParivahan app to keep your vehicle records, you can DigiLocker mobile app for driving licence, LPG subsidy records and even your education certificates.
The Ministry has also stated that even in case of vehicle impounding, physical documents are not required and fines can be electronically uploaded via VAHAN/SARATHI database and commuters can check their pending challans as well.
DigiLocker, which is a web and mobile application linked to your Aadhaar and phone number, was made under the Digital India drive to help store documents in the cloud and eliminate physical documents usage.
Users can upload scanned copies of their documents and e-sign them. E-sign works like self-attestation of physical documents.
Apart from IDs, organisations such as the CBSE, Income Tax Department, road transport and highways ministry, gas companies, many state and central govt departments can also push electronic copies of documents and certificates directly into your e-lockers.
