Bhubaneswar: Khurda excise sleuths and Cuttack flying squad officials on Thursday seized a huge cache of brown sugar from Odisha capital and the adjacent places, following separate raids.
Two peddlers were arrested in connection with the seizure.
The market value of the seized brown sugar is estimated to be more than Rs 1 lakh.
According to excise sources, similar raids will be carried out in other parts of the city.
The arrested persons are also being interrogated for information about those involved in brown sugar smuggling, the sources added.
On May 28, a man was arrested with brown sugar worth over Rs 1 crore at Arad Bazaar in Balasore district.
The brown sugar was seized by excise officials from the house of the accused identified as SK Rafik.
