Huge Explosives Seized From Stone Crusher Unit In Koraput

Jeypore: With the seizure of huge explosives from a stone crusher unit in Jamuda area under Borigumma police limits in Odisha’s Koraput district on Friday night, police suspect these were dumped by Maoists for future use.

Sources said the Borigumma police acting on a tip-off, raided the house of a person at Jayantgiri and seized some explosives from his possession.

Later on the basis of the information provided by the arrested person during interrogation, police raided a stone crusher unit at Jamuda and seized huge explosives, which include 26 packets of electronic detonators, 422 non-electronic detonators, 73 kg of Ammonium Nitrate stacked in two bags, 38 bundles of safety fuse and a few bundles of wire.

Police later arrested two persons from the crusher unit.

In an attempt to nab the prime accused, seven police teams led by the Koraput SP raided stone crusher units in Semiliguda, Sunabeda, Damanjodi, Pottangi and Borigumma in the district.

Speaking to newsmen, the SP said the raids will continue. “We are trying to ascertain the stores from where these explosives were bought. Once these are traced, efforts will be made for their closure.”

The SP did not rule out the involvement of the Maoists in the stockpiling of huge explosives. The arrest of kingpin will shed more light on it, he added.
