Mumbai: Lilavati Hospital had been in the news recently over alleged misappropriation of funds.
Now, the trustees of Mumbai’s renowned hospital say they have found evidence of black magic being conducted on its premises.
Lilavati Kirtilal Mehta Medical Trust, which managed the hospital at Bandra, has claimed that eight urns containing human bones, skulls, hair, rice and other items associated with occult practices were found buried under the office.
Based on their complaint of black magic practices being used by former trustees to harm Prashant Mehta and his mother Charu Mehta, a case was lodged under the Maharashtra Anti-Black Magic Act.
A search was carried and the excavation process recorded.
Former trustee Chetan Mehta, son of Vijay Mehta, denied the allegations.
“The black magic allegations do not even merit a response and are only towards creating a sensation,” he said.
The hospital trust earlier filed an embezzlement case of over Rs 1,250 crore against the former trustees, who allegedly siphoned off the funds through fraudulent orders and records.
According to officials, Kishore Mehta travelled abroad for medical treatment in 2002, when his brother Vijay Mehta took charge of the trust.
Vijay allegedly removed Kishore Mehta as a permanent trustee, and forged documents and signatures to appoint his sons and nephews as trustees.
Following a prolonged legal battle, Kishore regained his position in 2016. After his death in 2024, his son Prashant became the permanent trustee and conducted a forensic audit of accounts, which revealed massive financial irregularities.
