Mumbai: ‘Dangal’ fame actress Fatima Sana Shaikh, who has been raised by a Muslim mother and Hindu father, says she is an atheistic and believes in karma.
“When I was growing up, no one asked each other’s religion, caste, class etc. I didn’t know it was important until now, when we see these getting in the way all the time. I feel people have a lot of free time to talk about all this,” said Fatima.
“My mom is a Muslim, my dad is a Hindu and my brother and I are agnostic. I believe in karma,” she added.
Fatima will be seen sharing screen space with Manoj Bajpayee and Diljit Dosanjh in the upcoming movie ‘Suraj Pe Mangal Bhaari’.
In an interview with The Quint, Fatima shared her experience of working with Bajpayee and said that she kept asking him about his acting process during the making of the film.
“He has years of experience behind him and he can play all roles so convincingly, whether it’s an old or young person’s character,” said Fatima.
The actress also revealed that she is selective about the films she signs.
“Work did pour in after ‘Dangal’ but not the kind of roles or films I wanted to do. It’s a hard choice to make. I have a set of values that I am not willing to compromise and it’s a constant dialogue I have with myself,” she said.
