Mumbai: Hema Malini was among several Bollywood celebrities to cast their vote on Thursday for the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections.
The veteran actress posed for shutterbugs as she showed her inked finger while interacting with reporters outside the polling booth.
However, the situation heated up when an angry Mumbaikar, who was standing outside the polling booth since 7.45 am, confronted Hema for getting special treatment at the booth.
In a video that has gone viral, the angry citizen is heard telling Hema, “We have been here for the last 60 years, and there is chaos here for the first time. I am here since 7.45 AM, and it was at 9.30 AM when I voted. Nobody is answerable. Nobody is accountable! Not even a local worker is there.”
The veteran actress kept her calm and asked her staff to deal with the matter.
She continued to interact with reporters. “Sab logo ko vote dene ke liye aana chahiye. Jaise abhi subah main aa gayi hoon vote dene. Mera aagey bohot kaam hain woh bhi karenge (Everyone must come to vote. Like I have come to vote in the morning itself. I have a lot of work to do, which will happen next). But this is very important for every citizen of Mumbai.”

Hema also shut down trollers who had criticised her for an apparent cold expression while giving away medals at a sports event.
“I am smiling, okay? Now don’t complain that I don’t smile,” Hema remarked.

Three days ago, Hema presented medals to the winners at a sports event held in Mathura. Soon, a clip from the event, showing Hema with a neutral expression while awarding medals, went viral.
The veteran neither congratulated the sportspersons nor shook hands with the winners. This didn’t go down well with netizens, who started trolling her.
Besides Hema, Akshay Kumar, Twinkle Khanna, Sanya Malhotra, John Abraham, Tamannaah Bhatia, Zoya Akhtar, Divya Dutta, Nana Patekar, and Vishal Dadlani were also seen at the polling booths in the city.
