Mumbai: Shehnaaz Gill has opened up about the intense body-shaming she faced after her stint on ‘Bigg Boss 13’, recalling how constant comments about her appearance left her questioning what people really wanted from her.
Recalling the criticism she faced, Shehnaaz said people even called her “anpadh gawaar (uneducated)” over the way she conducted herself.
“I was trolled a lot on Bigg Boss because of my body. I also faced a lot of criticism for my language,” she said.
She recalled that after her stint on the Salman Khan-hosted show, she decided to lose weight to show people that it was possible. However, she stressed that being comfortable in one’s own body matters more.
“If you are comfortable in your body and feel that you look good like this, it’s okay,” she said.
Shehnaaz also questioned the audience’s fixation on actresses having an hourglass figure.
“I don’t know why we all have to have an hourglass figure. Everyone is different. If someone starts a trend that healthier bodies are better, then that trend will take on, but someone has to start it,” she said.
The actor further recalled how people criticised her regardless of whether she gained or lost weight.
“When I lose a little weight, people say, ‘Why did you lose weight? It doesn’t look good.’ When I put on weight, they say, ‘You have become fat. You should work on yourself,’ and I say, ‘Excuse me, what does the world even want?’ If you are not facing any issues with your health, then everything is okay,” she said.
Shehnaaz Gill shot to fame with ‘Bigg Boss 13’ before making her Bollywood debut with Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan (2023).
She has since appeared in films including Honsla Rakh and Thank You For Coming and hosts Desi Vibes With Shehnaaz.
