New York: Elon Musk’s penchant for courting controversy resurfaced with a comment defining women.
In a strange post on X, the Tesla and SpaceX CEO asserted stated that a woman is identified purely by biology, specifically the presence of a womb.
“If you have a womb, you are a woman. Otherwise, you are not,” Musk wrote on X, the social media platform that he owns.
The post went viral within hours, drawing sharp reactions and prompting intense debate among social media users.
“Can’t believe we’re living in a time where the obvious has to be stated,” remarked one person, to which Musk replied, “Seriously.”
Another user called Musk’s statement biologically inaccurate and pointed to MRKH (Mayer-Rokitansky-Kuster-Hauser) syndrome, a rare condition in which women are born without a uterus or with an underdeveloped one.
Some defended Musk, saying that the billionaire explaining “basic biology” became disputed and controversial even among educated people, reflecting a strange moment in history.
Another Musk backer agreed with his view, saying that biological definitions should remain central to discussions around gender.
Musk’s post came a day after he compared his transgender daughter’s transition to a “tragic mental illness.”
It was in response to California Governor Gavin Newsom, who told a podcaster that he wanted to see more trans children.
Newsom’s office reposted a clip from the interview, adding a caption aimed at Musk: “We’re sorry your daughter hates you, Elon.”
Musk is known for his opposition to gender reassignment.
