IIMC Dhenkanal’s Filmy Chakkar: Cinema Will Not Be Dead With Arrival Of OTT, Says Director Himansu Khatua

Dhenkanal: Cinema has and will continue to survive despite OTT (Over-the-top platforms). Affirming his faith in the powerful medium, award-winning director, Himansu Khatua said, “Cinema will have its existence. In fact it will get a wide spectrum.”

“The business of cinema halls won’t be pinched-off with the arrival of OTT platforms like Netflix, Hotstar, Prime Video cannot create an atmosphere as that of a theatre,” he added.

Moreover, the way cinema halls are using DLP (Digital Light Processing) projectors and experimenting with new technology like digital screens, it is indeed making the audience glued to the cinema screens. “Cinema will not dead. Film making has become easier and OTT is a new platform to distribute cinema,” said Khatua.

He was delivering a key-note on the theme ‘Cinema in the age of OTT’ at the inauguration of the third season of Filmy Chakkar at the Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) Dhenkanal on Tuesday. The three-day event (January 14-16) will witness a host of seminars, discussions, workshops and screening of films.
