IITs To Recruit Quota-Based Faculty For First Time
Mumbai: For the first time since the Indian Institute of Technology (IITs) were set up, the IITs have advertised for the faculty members’ quota-based hiring.
The Centre has changed the recruitment process, for which IITs had autonomy, and set new deadlines.
It was since 2019, the ministry of education (the then HRD ministry) has been pressurising the centrally funded higher education institutions to apply the reservation policy in recruitment. However, the IITs have deferred the implementation. Now, advertisements have been published for hiring SC/ST/OBC/ EWS faculty members at all institutes, including the IITs.
The education ministry’s letter in August-end insisted that reservation rules be adhered to and vacancies “especially in the Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribes and other backward classes” be filled by September 4, 2022.
For the first time, IITs have been set a deadline by the ministry. The institutes have been following a year-long rolling recruitment process over the years.
