Bhubaneswar: Thunderstorm coupled with lightning, gusty wind and rain is likely to lash all 30 districts of Odisha on Monday afternoon, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said in a nowcast warning.
Warnings have also been issued for state capital Bhubaneswar and adjoining Cuttack city for the next three hours.
In a message issued at 1.30 pm, the weather agency sounded an orange alert for Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Bhadrak, Kendrapada, Bargarh, Koraput, Sundargarh Jajpur, Nuapada, Cuttack (including Cuttack city), Keonjhar and Jharsuguda districts.
Moderate thunderstorm accompanied by surface wind speed reaching 40–50 kmph, lightning and light to moderate rain may affect some parts of these 12 districts within next three hours.
Under its impact, minor damage to loose / unsecured structures, banana trees, and standing crops may occur. People are advised to keep a watch on the weather for worsening conditions and be ready to move to safer places accordingly.
Similarly, a yellow warning was issued for Malkangiri, Rayagada, Kalahandi, Balangir, Kandhamal, Sonepur, Khurda (including Bhubaneswar city), Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Angul, Deogarh, Sambalpur, Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Dhenkanal, Boudh and Nabarangpur.
Light to moderate thunderstorm and lightning with surface wind speed reaching 30- 40 kmph, and light to moderate rain may affect some parts of these districts within next three hours.
People are advised to keep a watch on the weather for worsening conditions and be ready to move to safer places protect from lightning strike.
