Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued red, orange and yellow warnings for 27 places in Odisha till 10 pm on Monday.
RED WARNING
Severe thunderstorm accompanied by squall wind speed reaching 60-70 kmph, lightning, and moderate to intense spell of rain may affect some parts of Bhadrak, Mayurbhanj, Dhenkanal, Jajpur and Cuttack districts.
The weather agency has warned of damage to thatched huts, power and communication lines due to breaking of branches, waterlogging in low-lying area, standing crops, banana, papaya trees and orchards. People have been advised to take shelter in concrete structures and avoid taking shelter under trees or near electric poles and wires.
ORANGE WARNING
Moderate thunderstorm with lightning and moderate rain with gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph may occur in Khurda, Nayagarh, Balasore, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Ganjam, Gajapati, Nuapada, Balangir, Bargarh and Boudh in next two to three hours.
Under its impact, minor damage to loose/unsecured structures, banana trees, standing crops may occur. People have been advised to keep a watch on the weather and move to safer places.
YELLOW WARNING
Light to moderate thunderstorm with lightning and light to moderate rain with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may also affect some parts of Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Sonepur, Koraput, Kandhamal, Angul, Deogarh, Keonjhar, Jharsuguda and Rayagada districts.
People in these districts have been advised to keep a watch on the weather and move to safer places to protect themselves from lightning strikes.
