Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department has predicted rainfall in Odisha for four days beginning Monday under the influence of two trough lines.

Duty officer at the meteorological centre in Bhubaneswar, Jivan Baske, said a cyclonic circulation over eastern parts of Bihar and adjoining sub-Himalayan Bengal on Saturday had turned into a trough line at 1.5km above the mean sea level from Chhattisgarh to north interior Karnataka, while another trough line runs from interior Odisha to the east-central Arabian Sea across the south Chhattisgarh, Telangana and north interior Karnataka. Under their influence, there will be light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorm and hail at some places in the state for four days till February 28.

On February 27, light to moderate rain or thundershower is likely at a few places over the north Odisha districts and at one or two places over the south Odisha districts. Besides, thunderstorm with gusty wind and lightning is likely at one or two places over the districts of Sundargarh, Deogarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Cuttack and Jajpur.

The official further said that light to moderate rain or thundershower is likely at a few places over coastal districts and at one or two places over interior districts with thunderstorm accompanied by gusty wind and lightning likely at one or two places over the coastal districts on February 28.

He said fishermen have been advised not to venture out into the deep sea on February 26 and 27 as squally wind speeds reaching 40-50kmph will prevail over coastal Odisha and north-west Bay of Bengal making the sea condition very rough.
