IMD Predicts Very Heavy Rain In Odisha As Low Pressure May Turn Into Depression

Bhubaneswar: Odisha may experience heavy to very heavy rain till September 10 under the influence of a Low-Pressure area, which is expected to intensify into Depression over northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas of Gangetic West Bengal, north Odisha and Bangladesh coasts around September 9.

“The Low-Pressure area over central and adjoining north Bay of Bengal is likely to move slowly nearly northwards and intensify into Depression over northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas of Gangetic West Bengal, north Odisha and Bangladesh coasts around September 9. Thereafter, it is likely to move westnorthwestwards across Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining north Odisha, Jharkhand and adjoining north Chhattisgarh during subsequent 3-4 days,” the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said in its midday bulletin.

While heavy rain may continue for two days, the intensity of spells is likely to increase during the subsequent two days and gradually decrease thereafter.

September 6

Heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) may occur at isolated places in Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Khurda and Puri districts. Thunderstorm with lightning is also likely at isolated places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Nuapada, Balangir, Sundargarh and Rayagada.

September 7

Heavy rainfall may continue at isolated places in Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Puri, Khurda, Koraput, Malkangiri and Nabarangpur. Thunderstorm with lightning is also likely at isolated places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Deogarh, Jharsuguda, Angul, Dhenkanal and Sambalpur.

September 8

Heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20cm) may occur at isolated places in  Sambalpur and Angul. Heavy rainfall is also likely at isolated places in Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Cuttack, Nayagarh, Sonepur, Boudh, Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Deogarh, Jajpur, Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Rayagada and Dhenkanal.

September 9

Heavy to very heavy rainfall may continue at isolated places in Sundargarh and Jharsuguda. Heavy rainfall is also likely at isolated places in Bargarh, Balangir, Nuapada, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Keonjhar, Sonepur, Boudh, Kandhamal and Kalahandi.

September 10

Heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Balasore, Bhadrak, Koraput, Malkangiri and Nabarangpur.

While there is no warning thereafter, light to moderate rain/thundershower may continue at many places across the state.
