IMD Warns Of Heavy To Very Heavy Rain In Odisha; Further Dip In Temp After 48 Hours

Bhubaneswar: Conditions are favourable for further advancement of southwest monsoon over some more parts of Odisha during the next 2 days, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Friday.

The progress of monsoon was stalled for nearly two weeks after the early onset this year.

While heavy rain may resume in the state from Saturday, the weather agency has warned of intense spells of rain on June 16-18. Thunderstorm activity may continue till May 17.

The day temperature is also likely to dip further by 2-4 degree Celsius after 48 hours.

According to the IMD’s Extended Range Outlook (Cyclogenesis), a cyclonic circulation is likely to form over northwest Bay of Bengal around June 16. The weather models suggest further intensification of the system into a low-pressure area over north Bay of Bengal by June 22.

Yellow warning has been issued for Odisha till May 18.

June 13

Thunderstorm/lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph has also been sounded for Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati,Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput and Malkangiri till 8.30 am on Saturday.

June 14

Thunderstorm/lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph and heavy rain may occur at one or two places in Koraput, Malkangiri, Kalahandi, Kandahamal, Rayagada, Ganjam and Nabarangpur.

Thunderstorm/lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph is also likely at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Gajapati,Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada and Balangir.

June 15

Thunderstorm/lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph and heavy rain may occur at one or two places in Koraput, Malkangiri, Rayagada, Nabarangpur and Gajapati.

Heavy to very heavy rainfall may occur at one or two places in Sundargarh and Keonjhar.

Heavy rainfall is also likely at one or two places in Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Nabarangpur, Gajapati, Rayagada and Koraput.

Thunderstorm/lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may occur at one or two places in Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal and Malkangiri.

June 17

Heavy to very heavy rainfall may occur at one or two places in Mayurbhanj.

Heavy rainfall is also likely at one or two places in Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Keonjhar, Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapada and Jajpur.

Thunderstorm/lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may occur at one or two places in Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Bargarh, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput and Malkangiri.

June 18

Heavy rainfall may occur at one or two places in Sundargarh, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj.
