In Odisha’s Ganjam, A Novel Initiative For School Students: Plant A Tree, Get Extra Marks
Berhampur: In a novel initiative to increase the green cover, the Ganjam district administration has decided to award extra marks to students in their annual exams on the basis of their performance in tree plantation drives.
The campaign ‘One Student, One Plant’ was launched by Ganjam Collector Vijay Amruta Kulange at Brundaban Government High School in Hinjili on World Environment Day on Sunday. Under the initiative, school students will be required to plant a sapling and take care of it.
Kulange said free saplings will be given to every student, especially those studying in Class VI to X, which they can plant on their school premises, public places or near their houses.
Officials will evaluate how the plants were being taken care of and award extra marks to those who perform well.
