Cuttack: On the second day of her three-day visit to Odisha, President Droupadi Murmu visited the Cuttack Chandi Temple here and offered prayers to the deity. She was accompanied Governor Ganeshi Lal.

People gathered in large numbers to greet the President at Chandi Chhak. In her trademark gesture, Murmu again broke the protocol and was seen distributing chocolates among children there.

Earlier in the day, her convoy left the Raj Bhavan in Bhubaneswar and travelled by road to Cuttack amid tight security. After paying obeisances to Maa Cuttack Chandi, she visited the residence of Utkal Gourab Madhusudan Das on the premises of Shailabala Women’s Autonomous College and paid floral tributes at his statue.

Murmu then visited Netaji Birth Place Museum and paid floral tribute to freedom fighter Subhas Chandra Bose.

All these places were decked up to welcome the daughter of the soil, who completed one year in office on Tuesday.

At Jawaharlal Indoor Stadium, the President then released a souvenir celebrating 75 years of the establishment of Orissa High Court and addressed the judges and advocates.

Murmu will also visit the Museum of Justice in Cuttack, which provides an insight into the history of the Indian legal system. Later in the day, Chief Justice S Muralidhar will host a lunch for her at the judges’ lounge.

Later in day, she will address the annual function of SCB Medical College and Hospital and grace the convocation of National Law University, Odisha, here.

Before winding up her trip, the President will interact with Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTG) at Raj Bhavan  in Bhubaneswar on Thursday. She will also launch this year’s theme of Prajapita Brahma Kumaris Ishwariya Vishwa Vidyalaya — “The Year of Positive Change” — for conducting nationwide seminars and conferences and lay the foundation stone for its “Lighthouse Complex” at Dasabatia in Bhubaneswar’s Tamando.

Notably, Murmu was accorded a rousing welcome on Tuesday as she arrived in the capital city, coinciding with her completing one year in office. Governor Ganeshi Lal and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik received her at Biju Patnaik International Airport. Hundreds of people, including tribal men and women, dressed in traditional attire stood on both sides of the road as the car envoy passed. Breaking protocol, Murmu got down from her vehicle and shook hands with children waiting on road to get a glimpse of her. She also reached out to the folk artistes performing outside the airport.

Later in the evening, she had an interaction with a group of medical students whose education is sponsored by Atut Bandhan, a non-profit organisation. She also laid the foundation stone of Kalinga Atithi Nivas on Raj Bhavan premises in presence of the Governor and the CM.
