In The Offing: Vaccination Centre At Every KM In Odisha For The Elderly!
Bhubaneswar: Anganwadi centres and schools in Odisha will be used for vaccinating people above 50 years of age to save them from the trouble of travelling long distance for the jab.
“The strategy is to have vaccination sites within a km or two for everyone,” Additional Chief Secretary (Health) Pradipta Kumar Mohapatra was quoted as saying by The Times of India.
There are approximately 26 lakh people in this age group. As announced by Union Health Minister, they are likely to get the shot in the next three weeks. “Though we are yet to receive any communication from the Centre regarding registration and subsequent vaccination of the elderly, the drive can be executed at short notice,” Mohapatra said.
Odisha has so far vaccinated 4 lakh healthcare and frontline workers.
Technical Adviser to the state government on COVID-19 Jayant Panda had earlier informed that COVID-19 vaccination of elderly people will commence from March 1.
