Bengaluru: The pilot and his co-passenger had a narrow escape when a private mini aircraft crashed into an open field in Karnataka on Sunday.
The two-seater plane crashed in Babaleshwar taluk of Vijayapura district.
Even as the aircraft broke into three pieces, Captain Kunal Malhotra and assistant flight instructor and trainee Goutham Shankar managed to eject.
Both occupants sustained non-fatal injuries and were bleeding. They were rushed to a private hospital in Babaleshwar, where they are recovering, according to police.
The plane, belonging to the Red Bird Academy, was travelling from Kalaburagi to Belagavi.
A crowd of farmers gathered around the crash site, and one of them called Babaleshwar police station, reported The Hindu.
Cops, who arrived at the crash site within minutes, were told by eyewitnesses that the plane nosedived into the field and turned turtle. However, the two occupants had ejected themselves before the crash.
Police are recording the statements of farmers.
A case is being registered.
