New Delhi: India on Sunday advised its citizens to delay travel to Iran and urged those already in the country to consider leaving temporarily as the security situation deteriorates amid the expanding US–Iran confrontation.

In an updated travel advisory, the Indian Embassy in Tehran said recent days had seen a sharp rise in instability and violence across Iran. It asked Indian nationals planning to visit Iran “for any purpose” to defer travel until the security environment improves and encouraged those currently in the country to consider leaving using available commercial flights.

Mission Warns Of Elevated Risks

The embassy told those who remain to exercise the “highest level of caution,” closely monitor news developments and avoid areas experiencing heightened military activity, particularly along Iran’s southern coast. It also instructed Indian nationals to strictly follow directions from local authorities, as reported by India Today.

The mission urged Indians in Iran who have not yet registered with the embassy to do so immediately and to keep checking the embassy’s official website and social media platforms for updates.

Conflict Flares After Fresh Strikes

The advisory comes amid an escalation in the US–Iran confrontation that has prompted several countries to revise travel guidance. It followed another night of US strikes on Iranian targets — the eighth consecutive wave — after Washington said two American service members were killed in an Iranian attack in Jordan.

US Central Command said the strikes hit Iranian coastal surveillance and air-defence sites to “reduce threats to commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and retaliate against attacks on US forces.”

Iran responded with drone and missile strikes aimed at US positions in Kuwait.

Bahraini authorities said they intercepted incoming strikes, while Jordan reported shooting down three Iranian missiles after air‑raid sirens sounded, and Israel’s military detected missiles launched from Iran heading toward the Jordanian port city of Aqaba.

Shipping Disrupted, Casualties Reported

The renewed hostilities came after an interim ceasefire broke down, with both the US and Iran increasing military operations. The fighting has disrupted traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial oil transit route, stoking worries about energy supplies and regional stability.

Iran’s Health Ministry reported that recent US strikes killed dozens of people, while US officials confirmed two more service members died, bringing the U.S. military toll in the campaign to 16.

In response, India has advised its citizens to remain vigilant and to avoid non-essential travel to Iran until the security situation improves.
