New Delhi: Pro-Khalistan Twitter accounts have been withheld in India. These include the Twitter accounts of Canada’s New Democratic Party leader Jagmeet Singh and Canadian poet Rupi Kaur.
The Twitter accounts of voluntary organisation United Sikhs, and Canada-based activist Gurdeep Singh Sahota have also been blocked. The message “account has been withheld in India in response to a legal demand” appears if anyone attempts to access these accounts from India.
The action appeared to have been taken in response to Jagmeet Singh tweets, expressing “concern” about the ongoing operation in Punjab against pro-Khalistani separatist Amritpal Singh and comparing it to the Punjab insurgency.
Notably, the hunt for Khalistani leader Amritpal Singh, who according to Home Ministry sources was planning to launch a statewide procession to baptize the youth to carry out suicide attacks, has entered the fourth day on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, the Punjab and Haryana High Court pulled up the state government for “intelligence failure” over Amritpal Singh’s “escape”. Punjab police has been asked them to submit a status report on their operation.
Amritpal Singh’s uncle Harjit Singh and two other aides were flown to Assam this morning while four arrested associates were also taken to Dibrugarh Central Jail on Sunday. The seven men have been charged under the stringent National Security Act (NSA), which allows the police to detain suspects in any prison across the country, the NDTV reported.
