New Delhi:  India targeted several air defence units across Pakistan and ‘neutralised’ one such systems in Lahore, the Ministry of Defence said in a statement on Thursday

“Today morning Indian Armed Forces targeted Air Defence Radars and systems at a number of locations in Pakistan. Indian response has been in the same domain with same intensity as Pakistan. It has been reliably learnt that an Air Defence system at Lahore has been neutralised,” the statement said.

India also neutralised Pakistan’s attempts to attack military facilities in Srinagar, Pathankot, Amritsar, Ludhiana, Chandigarh, and other locations. “Indian Air Force S-400 Sudarshan Chakra air defence missile systems were fired last night against targets moving towards India,” reported the ANI.

Pakistan has stepped up the intensity of its unprovoked firing across the Line of Control using mortars and heavy calibre artillery in Kupwara, Baramulla, Uri, Poonch, Mendhar and Rajouri sectors in Jammu and Kashmir.

According to reports, at least 16 lives have been lost, including three women and five children, due to Pakistani firing. In retaliation, India was compelled to respond to bring Mortar and Artillery fire from Pakistan to a halt.

Meanwhile, amid the escalated tension between India and Pakistan, the Deputy Commissioner of Gurdaspur has ordered a complete district-wide blackout from 9 pm to 5 am starting tonight (May 8) under the Defence of India Act. It is the first border district that has enforced such a blackout.

The order will remain in effect until further notice. Hospitals and the central jail are exempted. But, the order, as reported by India Today, states that hospitals and jails must ensure all windows and doors remain shut.
