New Delhi: On the first anniversary of the devastating Pahalgam terror attack, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday reaffirmed India’s unyielding stance against terrorism, declaring that the nation will never bow to terror and that the “heinous designs of terrorists will never succeed.”
The assault, executed by the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba terror outfit at Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir exactly one year ago, claimed the lives of 26 innocent civilians, predominantly tourists from various parts of India.
In a poignant post on X (formerly Twitter), PM Modi paid homage to the victims: “Remembering the innocent lives lost in the gruesome Pahalgam terror attack on this day last year. They will never be forgotten.”
The Prime Minister conveyed his solidarity with the families grappling with their profound loss. “My thoughts are also with the bereaved families as they cope with this loss. As a nation, we stand united in grief and resolve. India will never bow to any form of terror. The heinous designs of terrorists will never succeed,” he affirmed.
In the immediate aftermath of the attack, India launched Operation Sindoor, a targeted military operation that struck terror infrastructure and related assets in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). The strikes, described as focused and non-escalatory, hit LeT and Jaish-e-Mohammad-linked sites. They were widely seen as a strong message of retaliation and deterrence. Subsequent operations, including Operation Mahadev, led to the neutralization of key perpetrators, including alleged mastermind Suleiman Shah, also known as Hashim Moosa, and associates, after an extensive 93-day manhunt.
