New Delhi: Flight operations between India and the United Kingdom will resume from January 8, Union Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri announced on Friday evening.

However, the number of flights will be restricted to 15 per week till January 23, and the carriers of the two countries will operate to and from Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad only, the minister tweeted.

Ten days ago, the government banned all commercial flights to and from UK 10 till December 31, in the wake of a new coronavirus strain found in that country.

Puri also posted passenger figures for the last day of 2020. A total of 2,13,079 passengers travelled on 2110 flights on December 31, 2020. The total flight movements was 4224, while aggregate footfall at airports was 4,28,794.
