India Vs England: Cancelled 5th Test To Be Played From July 1, 2022
London: The fifth and final Test between India and England, which was cancelled last month, will take place from July 1, 2022.
England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) announced on Friday that the match, which was scheduled to be played at Old Trafford in Manchester, will now be held at Birmingham’s Edgbaston ground. Old Trafford can’t host the match because it clashes with already-planned events at the venue.
With India leading 2-1 in the five-match series, the final Test was called off a few hours before the toss on September 10 due to COVID-19 concerns in the Indian camp.
It led to a controversy with several former English players saying that India Virak Kohli & Co. didn’t want to play as they wanted to reach the UAE with enough time for a six-day quarantine ahead of the resumption of IPL-14.
Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Sourav Ganguly, however, clarified that Indian players were ‘dead scared’ after the team’s second physion had contracted coronavirus the day before.
There was also speculation on whether Team India will be declared 2-1 series winners or if the match will be rescheduled as a one-off Test next summer when India were due to tour England for a limited-overs series.
