Rio de Janeiro: Prime Minister Narendra Modi landed at the Brazilian capital on Sunday to a grand welcome by the Indian diaspora, including a cultural performance to honour Operation Sindoor.
The Prime Minister was deeply moved by the performance, illustrating India’s bold mission against Pakistan-based terror groups. The act, performed by Brazilian Indian diaspora artists, included dramatised sequences of Indian security forces confronting terror threats, followed by a patriotic musical tribute. PM Modi praised the community’s creativity and spirit.
Modi is in Rio de Janeiro for the 17th BRICS Summit. His visit to Brazil is the fourth leg of his five-nation tour. Hundreds of people of Indian origin awaited his arrival at the hotel. They welcomed him with chants of “Bharat Mata ki Jai”, while waving the tricolour.
The Prime Minister will participate in the BRICS Summit on July 6-7, before proceeding on a state visit to Braslia – the first by an Indian Prime Minister in nearly six decades.
His arrival comes at a time when BRICS, consisting of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, has expanded to include five new members: Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia and the UAE.
Modi’s engagements will include high-level bilateral meetings with fellow BRICS leaders. The Brazil leg follows visits to Ghana, Trinidad and Tobago and Argentina. The final stop on his diplomatic tour will be Namibia.
