New Delhi / Tehran: The Embassy of India in Tehran has issued a fresh advisory urging all Indian nationals currently in Iran to leave the country by all available means of transport, including commercial flights, amid growing fears of conflict in the Middle East.

The advisory, released on Monday, comes amid escalating tensions between Iran and the United States, with concerns over a possible military escalation increasing in recent days.

Indian citizens — including students, pilgrims, business persons and tourists — have been advised to depart Iran as soon as possible in view of the “evolving situation”, reported Hindustan Times. The Indian mission in Tehran said the guidance is a continuation of a similar advisory issued earlier this year in January 2026.

Safety Measures and Assistance

The Embassy also reiterated its earlier advisory urging Indian nationals and Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs) to:

Exercise due caution and avoid areas of protests or demonstrations.

Stay in regular contact with the Indian Embassy in Tehran.

Monitor local news and developments closely.

Keep travel and immigration documents — including passports and IDs — readily available.

To help citizens, the mission has shared emergency helpline numbers and contact information for consular support. Those who have not already registered with the Embassy are asked to do so through an online registration link; if connectivity issues in Iran prevent registration, the Embassy has requested families in India to assist with the process on behalf of those in Iran.

The advisory comes against a backdrop of increasing geopolitical risk in the region, as tensions persist between Tehran and Washington. The United States has bolstered its military presence in the Middle East, and fears of broader conflict — including the possibility of military action — have been cited by officials and analysts.

The situation has also seen ongoing protests in some Iranian universities and cities, adding to concerns about civil unrest and security.

India’s move to urge citizens to leave reflects the government’s efforts to prioritize the safety of its nationals amid deteriorating conditions and uncertainty in the region.
