Dallas: An Indian-origin dentist, working part-time at a gas station in Dallas, US, was shot dead by an unidentified gunman on Friday night.
He has been identified as Chandrashekar Pole (27) from Hyderabad. The reason behind the shooting is not clear as yet. His family has now sought the government’s assistance in getting his body back.
Pole had apparently moved to the US in 2023 for higher studies after completing his bachelor’s in dental surgery in Hyderabad. He completed his master’s degree in the US six months ago and was looking for a suitable full-time placement. In the meanwhile, he worked part-time at the gas station.
BRS MLA Sudhir Reddy and former minister T Harish Rao visited the student’s home in Hyderabad and met his family on Saturday. Calling it a “tragic” incident, they urged the government to take immediate steps to bring back Pole’s body to his hometown.
“The pain that the parents are going through, knowing that their son, who they believed would reach great heights, is no more, is heart-wrenching to witness,” Rao said in an online post, extending condolences to the family.
“We, on behalf of BRS, demand that the state government take initiative and make efforts to bring Chandra Shekhar’s mortal remains to his hometown as quickly as possible,” he added.
This is the fifth death of an Indian-origin person in the US over the last few weeks. While a techie and a Sikh man were shot dead by the police under strange circumstances, three others, including Pole, were killed by unidentified gunmen. They included a woman convenience store owner from Gujarat and a youth from Haryana who had objected to a man urinating near the entrance of a store where he worked.
