Rourkela: IndiaOne Air, a regional airline, has announced support for the family of Susanta Kumar Biswal, the passenger who tragically died from injuries sustained in a forced crash-landing near Rourkela earlier this month.

“The company will take care of the expenses of his family. The family will certainly get a good amount of insurance amount and the company will take care of the family till then,” IndiaOne Air CEO Prem Kumar Garg during his visit here.

The family members of the deceased are expected to receive Rs 4.5 lakh and insurance as per rule.

When asked if the company would offer employment to any member of Biswal’s family, Garg noted that his two sons are currently pursuing their studies, and the company will also look after their needs.

Biswal, a crane supervisor and resident of the Vedvyas Nadiatola area in Rourkela, was the only son of his parents and is survived by his wife, two sons (aged 22 and 15), and his mother, who lives with the family. His elder son is pursuing an MCA degree at a private institute in Bhubaneswar, while the younger is a Class 10 student.

The incident occurred on January 10, 2026, when a nine-seater Cessna Grand Caravan EX aircraft (registration VT-KSS), operating a scheduled flight from Bhubaneswar to Rourkela under IndiaOne Air, encountered a technical glitch mid-air. The plane reportedly struck a high-tension wire before making an emergency forced landing in an open field at Kainser village near Gadiatola in the Jalda block, approximately 10 km short of Rourkela Airport.

All six people on board — four passengers and two pilots — survived the crash but sustained injuries. Biswal, aged 47, was traveling with his sister, Anita Sahu, after receiving medical treatment in Bhubaneswar. He suffered severe injuries to his spine and head, which was compounded by pre-existing conditions including chronic kidney disease, cardiovascular disease, and diabetes. He was receiving treatment at Jaiprakash Hospital in Rourkela but succumbed due to cardiac arrest on January 17 while being prepared for airlift to Mumbai for advanced care.

A detailed investigation by authorities, including the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB), is underway, with an interim report expected within a month.
