New Delhi: With an overnight surge of 80,472 COVID-19 cases, India’s affected tally raced past the 62-lakh mark to stand at 62,25,764 on Wednesday.
Also, 1,179 people across the country succumbed to the infection in the last 24 hours, the Union Health Ministry said on Wednesday. The fresh deaths took the toll to 97,497.
India’s recovery rate is 83.33 per cent, the highest in the world. The fatality rate, on the other hand, is 1.57 per cent.
Besides, 51,87,826 people have recovered from the infection so far with 86,428 being discharged on Tuesday. Another 15.11 per cent (9,40,441) are still under treatment.
According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), 7,41,96,729 samples have been tested for COVID-19 so far, including 10,86,688 on Tuesday.
