New Delhi: With an overnight surge of 74,442 COVID-19 cases, India’s affected tally raced past the 66-lakh mark to stand at 66,23,816 on Monday.
India’s Covid-19 tally had crossed the 20-lakh mark on August 7, 30 lakh on August 23 and 40 lakh on September 5. It went past-50 lakh on September 16 and crossed 60 lakh on September 28.
Also, 903 people across the country succumbed to the infection in the last 24 hours, the Union Health Ministry said on Monday. The fresh deaths took the toll to 1,02,685.
Meanwhile, India’s recovery rate is 84.34 per cent, the highest in the world. The fatality rate, on the other hand, is 1.56 per cent.
Besides, 55,86,704 people have recovered from the infection so far with 76,737
being discharged on Sunday. Another 14.11 per cent (9,34,427) are still under treatment.India has exceeded 140 tests per day per million population as advised by the World Health Organisation by nearly 6 times. Several states and UTs have demonstrated better performance than the national average, the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare added.
According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), 7,99,82,394 samples have been tested for COVID-19 so far, including 9,89,860 on Sunday.
