New Delhi: India’s largest airline, IndiGo, announced on Thursday that it will provide travel vouchers worth Rs 10,000 to passengers who were severely impacted by extensive flight disruptions earlier this month. The move comes as the airline works to stabilise operations after a prolonged period of cancellations and delays that left large numbers of travellers stranded at multiple airports.
The vouchers will be redeemable against future IndiGo travel over the next 12 months and are being offered in addition to the regular compensation the airline is obligated to pay under government guidelines. IndiGo said passengers whose flights were cancelled within 24 hours of departure will receive compensation ranging from Rs 5,000 to Rs 10,000 depending on the flight’s block time.

In its official statement, the airline acknowledged that customers travelling on December 3, 4 and 5 were subjected to long hours of waiting and significant inconvenience due to operational congestion at airports. Refunds for cancelled flights have already been initiated, with most refunds already reflected in customer accounts.
IndiGo also noted in its release that it is committed to restoring service standards and improving reliability as its flight schedule returns to normal following the disruptions.
The announcement follows heightened regulatory scrutiny of the airline’s operational performance. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) recently formed an oversight team and directed IndiGo officials to appear before the regulator to present detailed updates on flight restoration, refund and baggage handling processes, and plans to strengthen the carrier’s operational resilience.
Separately, the DGCA has also instructed IndiGo to reduce flight operations by 5% temporarily as part of efforts to manage the ongoing recovery from the disruption.
This compensation initiative aims to address passenger dissatisfaction following one of the most challenging periods in the airline’s operational history.
