New Delhi: IndiGo operated its first-ever flight on sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) on Friday.
The A320 Airbus plane took off from Toulouse in France and landed at Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi on Friday.
“Fasten your seatbelts, because we’re ready to go green. Are you?” an ecstatic IndiGo announced. It’s the first international flight operated by any Indian carrier using SAF, the airline claimed.
IndiGo posted pictures of the plane after it landed at Delhi.
“It’s greener in the city of #Delhi today as our first ever SAF aircraft touches down!” the airline wrote.
“We are pleased to take delivery of this Airbus aircraft which will run on Sustainable Aviation Fuel, as part of our journey towards sustainable aviation,” IndiGo CEO Ronojoy Dutta said.
According to global aviation body IATA, SAF is a fuel that has the potential to generate lower carbon emissions than conventional kerosene on a life cycle basis.
Last December, IndiGo signed a deal with Dehradun-based Council of Scientific and Industrial Research-Indian Institute of Petroleum (CSIR-IIP) to acquire SAF globally.
