Mundra: Chief Minister Mohan Majhi on Wednesday urged industry leaders to embrace a balanced ‘two-coast strategy’ for India’s industrial future, calling for accelerated development along the east coast with Odisha ready to play a pivotal role.
Addressing business stakeholders during his visit to the Adani-operated Mundra Port, one of India’s largest commercial ports, CM Majhi emphasised that the country’s next phase of industrial expansion must harness the untapped potential of the eastern seaboard. “India’s growth cannot remain one-sided. The next phase of industrial expansion must be powered by the east coast,” he stressed.
He proposed integrating operations across both the western and eastern seaboards, leveraging the established strengths of the west while capitalising on emerging opportunities in the east.
Majhi, who is on a three-day business trip to Gujarat, described the east coast as being at a “decisive inflection point,” positioning Odisha as a natural gateway for future growth. “What has been achieved on the west coast must now be expanded on the east. Odisha offers the ecosystem, connectivity, and policy support to enable that transition,” he added.
The Chief Minister highlighted Odisha’s strategic geographical advantages, including proximity to Southeast Asia, East Asia, and the broader Indo-Pacific region, which make it well-placed for global trade and supply chain diversification.
CM Majhi also showcased Odisha’s robust investment pipeline as evidence of accelerating economic momentum:

“In Odisha, investment intent is translating into implementation with speed and scale,” he stated, pointing to opportunities in logistics, chemicals, petrochemicals, and downstream manufacturing.
Industries Minister Sampad Chandra Swain, drawing from his roots in Paradip, underscored the transformative impact of port-led development. “I have personally witnessed how Paradip has played a pivotal role in shaping Odisha’s economic growth — real, visible, and transformative. Today, we are building on that strong foundation to usher in a new phase of port-led industrialisation,” he said.
The visit featured a detailed tour of Mundra Port’s facilities, including the Container Jetty, VLCC Jetty, West Port area, and manufacturing units in sectors like copper, solar cells, and wind turbine components.
