Mumbai: Singer Palash Muchhal has reportedly been booked in Maharashtra’s Sangli under Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, following a complaint filed by his ex-finance and Indian cricketer Smriti Mandhana’s childhood friend.
Smriti’s friend Vigyan Prakash Mane, a resident of Sangli, alleged that Palash made caste-related derogatory remarks during an argument. The incident, as per the complaint, took place at a toll plaza on the Sangli-Ashta road on November 22.
According to a report by TV9 Marathi, police have registered a case under Section 3(1) of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, along with Sections 351(2) and 352 and an investigation is currently underway.
Police stated that Palash had allegedly taken Rs 25 lakh from Vigyan for a film project. However, when Vigyan later sought a refund, it led to a heated argument between the two. “He assured me that the film would be completed in six months. However, he turned out to be deceitful. When I asked for my money back, he evaded the issue. When I confronted him, he used derogatory language; I cannot even repeat it on camera. His attitude is quite troubling,” Vigyan was quoted as saying by Zoom.
The case has also put the spotlight on Palash’s past relationship with Smriti.
The two were previously engaged and were expected to tie the knot in Sangli in November 2025. However, the wedding was eventually called off, and they later confirmed their separation on social media without disclosing the reason.
Police have stated that a case has been registered and that the investigation is ongoing, though no further details have been shared so far.
As the matter progresses, both the legal course of action and statements from those involved are likely to remain under close scrutiny.
