New Delhi: Saluting the spirit and power of women, Air India, Air India Express and AirAsia India have scheduled 90 all-female crew flights to mark International Women’s Day.
The number 90 is also significant as it’s the 90th anniversary of Bharat Ratna JRD Tata’s first commercial flight.
The Tata Group-owned commercial airline said they have been operating these all-women crew flights on international and domestic routes since March 1, 2023.
“In tune with this year’s International Women’s Day theme ‘DigitALL: Innovation and technology for gender equality’, it exemplifies the myriad ways in which women have contributed to the aviation sector and enriched it and emphasises the diversity and inclusion of the airlines’ women workforce,” Air India stated.
Women constitute over 40% of Air India’s workforce, with 275 of its 1825 pilots being women. That means women make up 15% of the cockpit crew strength — one of the world’s largest number of female pilots, the airline stated.
“India has the largest number of commercial women pilots in the world and with more Indian women pursuing careers in aviation, we are achieving gender equality in the workforce. We are proud of the women workforce with us at Air India today, and we thank each of them for sending out a powerful message that women can excel in any field,” said Campbell Wilson, CEO and MD of Air India.
