Mumbai: He had stepped down as Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain at the start of IPL 2022, paving the way for Ravindra Jadeja to take over the reins.
Midway through the 15th edition of the popular T20 league, with CSK struggling to win matches, MS Dhoni is back at the helm after Jadeja decided to step down to concentrate more on his game.
“MS Dhoni has accepted to lead CSK in the larger interest and to allow Jadeja to focus on his game,” CSK said in a statement on Saturday.
Even though Jadeja was the captain officially, the 40-year-old Dhoni was seen taking decisions and advising fellow-players on the field during matches more often than not.
Now, the veteran wicketkeeper-batter will take over the reins to try and salvage CSK’s season.
Defending champions CSK have lost 6 of their 8 matches so far. The men in yellow need to win the remaining 6 games, starting with the clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Sunday, to give themselves a chance of qualifying for the playoffs.
