Tehran/Tel Aviv: Iran reportedly targeted Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office with a missile strike on Monday, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has claimed. The paramilitary group that heads Iran’s defence establishment has called this a “surprise” attack.
The attack was also aimed at the location of the Israeli Air Force Commander, the Iranians said. Netanyahu’s fate is “unclear” following the strike, IRGC claimed, as reported by The Economic Times.
“The office of the criminal Israeli PM, Netanyahu and the location of the regime’s Air Force commander were struck in targeted and surprise attacks by Kheybar Shekan ballistic missiles during the 10th wave,” the IRGC said in a statement on Telegram.
While Israel has not issued any statement on this yet, there was some speculation over the last couple of days about Netanyahu’s whereabouts. Some even claimed that he has been moved to a secret location in Europe.
The announcement by the IRGC comes amid the broader Israel‑Iran conflict, which intensified after Iran’s supreme leader Ali Khamenei was killed over the weekend in a joint strike by the US and Israel. Tehran and its allied militias have launched missiles and drones at Israeli cities and US bases across the Gulf.
Meanwhile, International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) chief Rafael Grossi described the situation surrounding Iran’s nuclear facilities as “very concerning”. He warned that a “possible radiological release could have serious consequences, and may require the evacuation of areas as large or larger than major cities.”
“Efforts to contact the Iranian nuclear regulatory authorities … continue, with no response so far,” he added.
Reza Najafi, Iran’s ambassador to the IAEA, reiterated that US and Israeli forces attacked Iranian nuclear sites on Sunday, specifying that the Natanz facility was hit.
