Tehran: Iran has reportedly shifted its Nuclear centrifuges to a underground complex near Natanz known as Pickaxe Mountain. A report published in the Wall Street Journal, which mentions US and Israeli officials, states that Israeli intelligence believe the transfer took place last autumn.
The facility is believed to be buried under 300 feet beneath solid granite, the report claims.
The Wall Street Journal report claims that satellite imagery and intelligence have shown truck movements and construction activity around the mountain.
But it is not clear that where the centrifuges came from. Officials, cited in the report, believe they may have been relocated from other Iranian nuclear facilities.
Iran has not allowed inspectors from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to visit the Pickaxe complex.
IAEA director general Rafael Grossi said in March that Iran had informed the agency in 2021 about its intention “to have nuclear activity” at the Pickaxe site. But the lack of international access has raised concerns.
