Dubai: Iran has declared that it is currently evaluating a set of new proposals submitted by the United States in a potential diplomatic breakthrough, AP reported.
Iran’s Supreme National Security Council revealed in a statement on Saturday that Pakistan’s army chief Asim Munir, who served as an intermediary, handed over the proposals during his recent visit to Tehran, and Iranian officials are still actively reviewing them.
The specific contents of these proposals were not made public, though.
The council noted Iran has not replied yet, but added further discussions hinge on the US dropping “excessive demands and adjust its requests to the realities on the ground.”
Hormuz Strait Stance
Iran affirmed it will keep total oversight of Strait of Hormuz shipping until “the war fully ends and lasting peace is achieved in the region,” including logging vessel details, issuing transit certificates, and levying tolls.
The council deemed the US naval blockade a breach of the ceasefire, insisting no reopening of the Strait of Hormuz until it ends.
Trump Comments
US President Donald Trump remarked on Saturday that US talks with Iran are going well, anticipating more details “by the end of the day.”
Speaking at a White House event signing an executive order to fast-track FDA review of select psychedelic drugs for mental health breakthrough therapy, Trump sidestepped Iran queries but affirmed, “We have very good conversations going on.”
He charged Iran “got a little cute,” adding, “They wanted to close up the strait again,” on the Strait of Hormuz. “They can’t blackmail us,” Trump said.
