New Delhi: Like most social media platforms, WhatsApp can be a very useful medium, especially for quick and prompt communication. But it can be an irritant as well.
The biggest nuisance that WhatsApp can cause is through unwanted messages.
Business platforms, be it an e-commerce company, an apparel store, some banks, a restaurant chain or other websites often flood your WhatsApp space with offers without you having asked for any of those. There could even be spams or persons looking to lure you into dating.
How you wish you could block all these unwanted advertisers, or mischief seekers.
Well, your wish may soon be fulfilled.
The Meta-owned messaging app platform is testing a method through which the spam menace can be curbed. Users will be given more power about who messages them, with a limit being set on these spammers.
All details are not yet available, but it has been learnt that the businesses using WhatsApp to send messages will be warned about how many texts they have sent the user. It’s similar to the WhatsApp forwards, which was set a limit in markets like India.
There will be a limit for these businesses, and if users don’t reply to their messages, they will be blocked from using the platform to spam/message them.
Meta will be starting the tests in select regions initially, focused on limiting spams on WhatsApp.
Another change that WhatsApp is mulling involves the Status update, where ads can be seen. The platform is testing an Instagram-like feature, where users can ask questions within these updates.
Meta AI is a big part of these changes, with no compromise in end-to-end encryption standards.
